An American writer, born on September 16, 1934, in Abadan, Iran. He is among an elite group of screenwriters on the WGA list of 101 Greatest Screenplays ever written. He immigrated to the United States from Iraq to study at New York University. He won the Mahler award and graduated with a master's degree in screenwriting in 1968, then went on to teach at New York University from 1968 to 1973. He then moved to Hollywood after co-writing with Martin Scorsese. He also worked for Chartoff-Winkler Productions. His works include American Boy: A Profile of - Steven Prince (1978) and The Last Waltz (1978). He died on September 11, 2019, in Studio City, California, USA.
