Augusto José Ramón Pinochet Ugarte was a Chilean general and dictator who ruled Chile from 1973 to 1990, He was born in Valparaiso, Valparaiso Region, Chile. He appeared in Against Reason and by Force (1974), Condor: Axis of Evil (2003), and Chile: Hasta Cuando? (1986). He married Lucía Hiriart. During his 17-year rule, more than 5,000 Chileans were killed and countless others were tortured or imprisoned. He is the father of Augusto Pinochet Jr. He died on December 10, 2006, in Santiago de Chile, Metropolitan Region, Chile, of an acute heart attack.
