Austrian actor and composer, born on September 30, 1934, in Klagenfurt, Carinthia, Austria, to a wealthy family. He grew up in the Austrian Ottmanach Castle with his brothers John and Manfred. He was married to Corinna Reinhold and Erika Meier. He was the father of Jenny Jürgens and John Jürgens.
He won a composer competition in 1950 organized by Austria's public broadcasting channel ORF with the song "Je t'aime". He was the first and only Austrian winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1966 with "Merci, Cherie". In 2007, he obtained Swiss citizenship. He is known for I've Never Been to New York (2019), Der Mann mit dem Fagott (2011), and Montana Trap (1976). He died on December 21, 2014, in Münsterlingen, Thurgau, Switzerland.
