A Soviet pilot and cosmonaut, born on March 9, 1934, in Klushino, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. He was the first man to enter deep space on April 12, 1961. Gagarin was appointed a deputy to the Supreme Soviet in 1962. He died on March 27, 1968, in Novosyolovo, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. To commemorate his achievement as a cosmonaut and the first human in space, a crater on the moon is named after him. He was the uncle of Tamara Filatova. His credits include Novogodniy kalendar (1965) and Pervyy reys k zvyozdam (1961).
