A Yugoslav actress, born in Dubrovnik, Austro-Hungary (Yugoslavia), as Marta Ivanka Mitrovich. She married a much older man and gave birth to her daughter Sonia. Her credits include The Unfaithful (1947), When Strangers Marry (1944), A Lady Without Passport (1950), and Prisoners in Petticoats (1950). Marta often played supporting roles of an ethnic nature in Hollywood and lived in London during World War II. She appeared on stage, moved to the United States in 1941, resumed her career on stage, and then moved to cinema. She was banned because of her communist leanings, and she devoted her life to poetry, from which she retired in 1990, entered into seclusion, and later died in Laguna Beach, California, USA, on March 25, 2002.
