After high school graduation, he moved to Los Angeles and enrolled at the University of Southern California. He worked as an assistant deputy probation officer so he could pay for his studies. Then he attended Harvard University in Cambridge to study law. After returning to Los Angeles, he began acting in silent cinema, making short films. During the sound era, he played supporting and secondary roles and worked during the golden age of cinema and television. He is known for Adventures of Superman (1958), The Phantom of 42nd Street (1945), and Trial Marriage (1928). He was married two times, but his marriages ended in divorce. He died at the age of 65 on April 5, 1968, in California, USA.
