Mao Zedong was a Chinese communist revolutionary and the founder of the People's Republic of China. He was born on December 26, 1893, in Shaoshan, Hunan, China. He appeared in a number of documentaries, including Nach Peking und zurück (1972), The New China (1951), and The People Between (1947). Mao is considered by many to have been the most powerful leader in the history of the world. He ruled China through an autocratic and totalitarian regime marked by mass oppression and the destruction of religious and cultural artifacts. He died on September 9, 1976, in Beijing, China.
