During the early 1990s, she began her dancing career in music videos. She started acting in minor roles in the late 1990s. She was awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from the University of Huddersfield in 2006. She is known for Dinnerladies (1998-2000) and Coronation Street (2001-2013). She was married to Anshu Srivastava. She received a British Soap Award nomination for Coronation Street.
