An Iraqi writer born in Baghdad, where he completed his studies until he graduated from the Faculty of Law in 1949. He worked as a lawyer and then as a judge, as he was appointed to the Baghdad Court in 1964, after which he obtained a leave to complete his studies in France. He...Read more remained there for two years before returning to work as a legal expert in the Iraqi Ministry of Justice, and in 1987, he retired and lived in Tunisia for several years, where he worked in the Iraqi embassy. He published his first short story in 1951, entitled "Vague Whisper," then continued writing in most literary genres, such as stories, novels, plays, and literary articles. Among his notable novels are "Spit in the Face of Life" (1980) and "Delights and Pains" (1998). He moved to Tunisia in 1990 after the death of his wife and later married Tunisian novelist Rashida Turki. In 2000, the government of the United Arab Emirates awarded him the Al Owais Award for Arabic Novels and Literature. He died of pancreatic cancer on February 11, 2008, in Amman, Jordan, where he and his family had lived for three years.
