A British actor, born in Nyasaland (now Malawi) on March 17, 1927 as John Keith Patrick Allen. His father was a tobacco farmer, and upon his family's return to Britain, World War ll broke out and he was evacuated to Canada, where he completed his education at McGill University in Montreal. He worked in Canada as a radio broadcaster and appeared on television in plays and documentaries before returning to England in 1953. He appeared in many roles in cinema and television, in addition to his stage work in the Royal Shakespeare Company, and his radio work. He married actress Sarah Lawson, they had two children, and she stayed with him until his death. Among his notable works are UFO (1971), Glencannon (1959), and The Long Haul (1957). He died in London, England, UK on July 28, 2006.
