An American stage, film and television actress, born in Los Angeles, California, USA, on October 1, 1889, as Araminta Estelle Durfee. Her father was a railroad engineer and her mother was a seamstress. She began her career as a chorus girl in the theater in 1908, and began her silent film career as a comedian in 1913 and became the leading lady in Charlie Chaplin's two-reel silent short films. She appeared cinematically in small roles in a career that spanned seven decades, as she continued working when sound entered films. She was previously married to actor, director, and writer Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle (1908-1925) and they had two children. Among her notable works are The Water Dog (1914), The Miracle Kid (1941), and The Cabaret (1918). She died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA on September 9, 1975, of heart disease.
