American actor, born in Fresno, California, USA, on January 15, 1881. He was bald with a stern face and often played the roles of politicians, policemen, judges, and doctors. He began his artistic activity in theater and participated in one silent film in 1916, and returned to the screen when sound entered films. He is known for The Scarlet Empress (1934), Reap the Wild Wind (1942), and The Buccaneer (1938). He died in Ventura, California, USA, on November 4, 1972.
