He began his artistic activity with a silent film at the end of the silent cinema era and continued his artistic career after sound entered films. He is known for The Harvey Girls (1946), Mission to Moscow (1943), and Stars in My Crown (1959). He died in Los Angeles, California, USA, on August 10, 1952, of cancer.
