A British actor, born in Brighton, East Sussex, England, United Kingdom, on November 15, 1885, as Herbert Banemann Rawlinson. He was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 for his film work. Among his most important works are The Flame Fighter (1925), The Victor (1923), and Blake of Scotland Yard (1937). Rawlinson was a circus performer and later a dramatic actor. He worked in cinema, theater, television, and radio. He was a leading man during the silent film era in Hollywood, but he moved to character roles after the introduction of sound to films. He proved his comic prowess in silent films in the 1910s, and in 1914, he joined Universal and specialized in playing important figures, such as senior army officers, lawmen, politicians, and newspaper editors. He presented a large number of silent short comedies and continued to work in sound films until his death at the age of 67 in Los Angeles, California, USA, on July 12, 1953, of lung cancer.
