An American actor, born in Des Moines, Iowa, USA, on November 4, 1902, as Francis William Albert Jenks. He got married twice and had no children. He is the son of advertising man Frank Jenks and pianist Lillian Sadler. He attended the University of Southern California and learned to play the violin, trumpet, trombone, and clarinet. He left college and led a band on the vaudeville stage, then became a singer and dancer. From being a musician, he made his way to the legal theater, and from there to the movies. Among his most important works are His Girl Friday (1940), Rogues Gallery (1944), Shake Hands with Murder (1944), and The Westland Case (1937). He died in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA, on May 13, 1962, of throat cancer.
