American actress of Swedish descent, born in South Manchester, Connecticut, USA, on November 27, 1905, as Astrid Allwyn Christofferson. She got married twice and had 3 children. She appeared in many films of the thirties and early forties, studied dance and drama in New York, and gained experience working with a contributing troupe. She appeared on Broadway in 1929, as a singer and actress, and because of her theatrical fame, she was brought to Hollywood in 1932 and made her debut. In 1943, she decided to retire to devote herself to the family and raising children. Among her most important works are Love Affair (1939), International Crime (1938), and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939). She died in Los Angeles, California, USA, on March 31, 1978, of cancer.
