American singer and actress, born in Des Moines, Iowa, USA, on July 18, 1909, as Harriet Louise Snyder. She died in Laguna Beach, California, USA, on October 2, 1994, of emphysema and congestive heart failure. She was married twice and had two children. Harriet received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 for her television career. Among her most important works are The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet (1952), Canal Zone (1942), The Falcon Strikes Back (1943), and Follow the Fleet (1936). Her parents were actors, and she appeared in the limelight at the age of 6 weeks with her parents. She appeared on the vaudeville stage when she was three years old, and on Broadway as a teenager. She dropped out of high school and joined a ballet troupe at the Capitol Theatre, then performed in vaudeville, where sax player Ozzie Nelson saw her and then married her three years later. She signed a one-year contract with RKO and made 3 feature films, most notably Follow the Fleet in 1936. She was very popular in musicals and comedies during World War II. She and her husband also had a major role in radio programs, and they made films together.
