A Polish actor, born in Nisko, Galicia, Poland. He married twice and had two children. His credits include The Great Sinner (1949), The 27th Day (1957), Moby Dick (1956), and The Roots of Heaven (1958). Friedrich von Ledebur was a tall, slim, tough-looking Austrian character actor with sculpted features. He came from a distinguished aristocratic family and was a cavalry officer. He participated in World War I with the Austrian army and was an accomplished horse rider. After obtaining an engineering diploma following the war, he worked in gold mining, deep-sea diving, and horse riding, and participating in rodeo competitions. He finally settled in the United States after World War II and appeared in Hollywood films, specializing in the roles of Indian chiefs, Vikings, German infantrymen, pirate captains, and more. He died in Linz, Upper Austria, Austria, on December 25, 1986, at 86.
