A Brazilian journalist and writer, born in Mariana, Minas Gerais, Brazil. At the age of 15, he started working in journalism. After moving to São Paulo at the age of 18, he worked for a number of publications and won multiple significant journalism awards. He wrote a number of books and autobiographies on various historical figures and events in Brazil, many of which were turned into motion pictures. In São Paulo, he was the Minister of Culture from 1988 to 1991 and the Minister of Education from 1991 to 1993. He also served twice as a representative for the Brazilian Democratic Party in the legislative councils in 1978 and 1982.
