A Canadian-American actor, born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on December 20, 1924, as John Samuel McKim. His older brother was actor David McKim. Sammy married Dorothy (1955-2004), they had two children, and she remained with him until his death. Among his most important works are The Painted Stallion (1937), Red River Range (1938), Little Men (1940), and The Old Barn Dance (1938).
He graduated from the Los Angeles Art Center with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He joined the U.S. Army, quit acting, fought in the Korean War, and received the Distinguished Service Cross. Sammy was born the second of a family of five child actors of the 1930s and 1940s. His acting career lasted from the age of nine until the end of his twenties. After his stint in the army, he worked as an artist before moving to Walt Disney Studios, where he worked as an illustrator for 32 years. He died in Burbank, California, USA on July 9, 2004, due to heart failure.
