A Russian-American actress, born in Yalta, Taurida, Ukraine as Miriam Edez Adelaida Leventon. She was previously married to actor Sergei Golovin (1899-1923).
At the age of 13, she studied at the Conservatory in Odesa, and when she first appeared on stage, she changed her name to Alla Nazimova. She began acting lessons at the age of 17, joined the Moscow Art Theatre, and made a theatrical tour in Europe.
She ended up in New York, where she was welcomed on Broadway, and entered the world of cinema in Hollywood in 1916. She started writing and directing, but she lost a lot of money in producing films. In 1927, she obtained American citizenship and focused all her efforts on theatrical work, but in the forties, she returned to cinema for a short period. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 for her cinematic activities. Some of her notable works are Salomé (1922), Camille (1921), and The Brat (1919). She died of coronary thrombosis in Los Angeles, California, USA, on July 13, 1945, at the age of 66.
