An American actor of Chinese origin, born in San Francisco, California, USA. Chester Gan married Mei Heong Lee and had four children. His most important works include Victory (1940), Across the Pacific (1942), The Electric Man (1941), and Burma Convoy (1941).
He was a character actor who worked in Hollywood from the thirties until the fifties. Gan received his university education in China, then returned to work as an engineer and developed an interest in acting. In 1931, he began his acting career with supporting and minor roles. Also, Chester Gan worked as an interpreter and a consultant on Chinese culture and customs in Hollywood films. He owned a slipper store and a restaurant in Chinatown. World War II stopped his career, as he joined the US Navy, and after the war, he worked in the field of photography. He died in San Francisco, California, USA, on June 29, 1959.
