An American journalist, born in Chicago, Illinois. He attended the University of Illinois Navy Pier after leaving the service during World War II, and in 1949, he finished his last two years at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was a copywriter for the Chicago Daily News when he was fourteen years old. In 1947, he became a correspondent for the Chicago Sun-Times. Following that, he started working in local television in Chicago before joining NBC's daily newscast, The Huntley–Brinkley Report, as a reporter and anchor from 1970 until 1982. Up until 1993, he kept up his editorial and commentary writing for The Evening News alongside Tom Brokaw. He died on July 12, 1996, in Princeton, New Jersey, USA.
