He is a Brazilian actor, born in Tucano, Brazil. He studied theater in London. His debut was in The Given Word (1962). He is known for Black God, White Devil (1964), São Bernardo (1972), and O Paciente: O Caso Tancredo Neves (2018). He is married to Martha Overbeck. He has received several awards and nominations, such as the Cinema Brazil Grand Prize.
