An American actress, born in New York City, USA, as Helen Carey Johnson. She studied in New York and completed a fine arts course at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, after which she continued her studies for two years in Paris, and after her return, she was a fashion stylist in stores and advertisements. She began her journey with films in 1929.
She married Percival Rupert Christopher Wren in 1939, and their marriage ended in divorce. In late 1932, she appeared on Broadway, and in 1934, she reappeared in cinema in a major role in The Crime Doctor, then her career began to be affected by her affairs with some stars. After her divorce, she had several failed attempts to return to films, and finally worked as a radio actress and then as a costume designer. Some of her notable works are The Divorcee (1930), Working Girls (1931) and Sin Takes a Holiday (1930). She died in Los Angeles, California, USA, on April 6, 2002, at the age of 95.
