A Spanish-born American visual artist and handmade jewelry maker, born in Madrid, Spain. At the age of 15, he left home after his father objected to his artistic activities. He worked in a studio in Madrid and also worked as an art director for the first Spanish four-reel film, in which he played the villain.
While he was a teenager, he joined the Spanish cavalry, served for two years, and was wounded in the Rif War, then went to Paris and was introduced to cubism, abstraction, and surrealism.
In 1924, he emigrated to the United States and worked in designing scenery in Florida, drawing fashion illustrations, and displaying his paintings at the Art Institute of Chicago. He was married twice and had a daughter. He only acted in one film which was The Buccaneer (1958). He died in Sarasota, Florida, USA, on August 22, 1979, at the age of 79.
