Shaimaa Saied |
An American flamenco dancer, actor, and choreographer of Italian descent, born in Montorio nei Frentani, Italy. He is best known for promoting Spanish dance on stage and screen in America during the 1950s and 1960s. He established the José Greco Foundation for Hispanic Dance.
He received a knighthood from the Spanish government, in addition to 4 honorary doctorates, and worked as a professor of dance at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Among his notable works are Around the World in 80 Days (1956), Ship of Fools (1965) and Sombrero (1953). He married Ana Borger-Greco, they had 6 children, and she remained with him until his death. He died of heart failure in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA, on December 31, 2000, at age 82.
