A Spanish actor, born in Oviedo, Spain. After he joined the army when the Spanish Civil War broke out, he returned to Spain in 1943 and got a job at the Asturian railways, and the following year, he began his film career. He played small roles, and in 1948, he got starring roles...Read more and became a famous Spanish actor. In 1971, he became the mayor and local head of the Movimiento party (the only political party of Franco's authoritarian regime) in Aller, Asturias. Among his most important works are An Impossible Crime (1954), Diego Corrientes (1959), La boda (1964), and Maria Isabel (1968). He won the Cinema Writers Circle Award for Best Actor in 1955 for An Impossible Crime. He also won in 1964 the Prize of the National Syndicate of Spectacle for Best Male Star for La boda (1964). He married Maria Luisa Vazquez (1950-1981), they had a daughter, and she remained with him until he died in Moreda, Spain, on August 6, 1981, following complications from a stroke, at the age of 61.
