He won the Cinema Writers Circle Award for Best Actor in 1955 for An Impossible Crime. He also won in 1964 the Prize of the National Syndicate of Spectacle for Best Male Star for La boda (1964). He married Maria Luisa Vazquez (1950-1981), they had a daughter, and she remained with him until he died in Moreda, Spain, on August 6, 1981, following complications from a stroke, at the age of 61.
