He was a Spanish actor, born in Oviedo, Spain. After he entered the army when the Spanish Civil War broke out, he returned to Spain in 1943 and got a job on the railway, and the following year he began his film career. He played small roles, and in 1948, he got starring roles and became a famous Spanish actor. In 1971, he became the mayor and local president of the Movimento party (the only political party of Franco's authoritarian regime) in the Alier region. Among his most important works are An Impossible Crime (1954), Diego Corrientes (1959), La boda (1964), and Maria Isabel (1968). He won the Spanish Film Writers and Critics Award for Best Actor in 1955 for Impossible Crime. He also won the National Syndicate of Spectacle Award in Spain in 1964 for Best Spanish Actor for La boda (1964). He married Maria Luisa Vazquez (1950-1981) and they had a daughter, who remained with him until he died. He died in Moreda, Spain, on August 6, 1981, following complications from a stroke, at the age of 61.
