An American actor of German origin, born in Albany, New York, USA. Among his most important works are I Married a Monster from Outer Space (1958), Anatomy of a Murder (1959), North by Northwest (1959), McCloud (1972-1977). His distinctive voice helped him launch his career on the radio. He was married to Catherine Patricia Griffin and had 4 children. He died of a virus in Burbank, California, USA, on February 13, 1990, at the age of 79.
