An American actor, composer, singer, songwriter, and radio and television host. He was born in White Plains, New York, United States. He was married four times and had three children. He began his artistic career singing with musical bands and performing on radio shows, later moving on to television presenting, while also appearing in films since 1943. His notable works include The Gentleman Misbehaves (1946), Sing While You Dance (1946), So Dear to My Heart (1948), and Monkey Shines (1988). He passed away in Hilton Head, South Carolina, United States, on January 27, 1989, from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), at the age of 65.
