Regulatory authorities have agreed to allow the shooting of the film “Al Samt” (“Silence”) which was previously titled “Zinna Al Maharrim” (“Lewd Conduct”). The screenplay for that film is credited to Dr. Rafeeq Al Saban who adapted the Tunisian novel “Mai Ziyady”. Directing duties will be assumed by Inass Al Daghdaghy and it is expected that filming will begin immediately after the cast members have been chosen.Dr. Rafeeq Al Saban, to whom the film’s screenplay is credited, has indicated that regulatory authorities had previously rejected the film and its title on the grounds that it was immodest and contained scenes of violence. Thereafter the film’s title was changed and alterations were made to some of the film’s content that originally portrayed a father figure that was mentally unstable. Following those changes regulatory authorities have allowed the project to proceed. Dr. Rafeeq has added that the changes which were made did not alter the fundamentals of the film which still assumes incest as a major theme.Dr. Rafeeq has refused to characterize the film as explicit or bawdy due to the fact that it tackles an important societal issue from a strictly psychological perspective. The film tells the story of a psychiatric patient whose doctors tries to investigate the causes that led her to attempt suicide. The doctor comes to the realization that her patient was sexually assaulted by her father together with a host of other taboos which society refuses to face or acknowledge. Al Saban has added that the film represents the realization of a creative dream for himself and has indicated that the screenplay is among the best that he has ever written. The fact that the screenplay is an adaptation of a controversial novel that confronts taboo issue adds to the success of the project in Al Saban’s opinion. With regards to the female performers that have been nominated for roles in the production it has been ascertained that Hend Sabry was the primary candidate for the role of the doctor. However the fact that Hend Sabry is in a late stage of her pregnancy makes her participation in a project that will begin next month not feasible. Thus Muna Shalaby and Muna Zaky have been suggested as alternate names. As for the role of the patient Al Saban has indicated that he knows of no one better suited for the role than Rouby.
