Entrants in the official contest at the Dubai film festival included one Arab entry, an Egyptian film titled “678” which features the talents of Nelly Karim, Bushra, Ahmed El Fishawy, Maged Al Kaddwany and Bassem El Samra. The film was directed by Mohamed Diab who also contributed the screenplay. Ahmed El Sekka was keen to support those involved in the making of the film and in particular the director and screenwriter Mohamed Diab whom El Sekka has described as “a genius”. Moreover El Sekka has expressed his fondness of the film’s theme which sheds light on the question of the sexual harassment of women in Egypt. El Sekka also congratulated those involved in the film’s production for the positive reception it has received at Dubai.Ahmed El Sekka has been censured by Egyptian media and acting figures due to his disregarding of the Cairo Film Festival which concluded its 34th round several days ago. While ignoring the Cairo Film Festival, El Sekka went through significant trouble to attend the Dubai Film Festival. El Sekka failed to attend the opening of the Cairo Film Festival, he also did not attend the closing or any of the activities of the film festival. This comes despite the fact that the festival’s organizers, and in particular E’zzat Abou O’uf, made an effort to invite El Sekka to attend the film festival. However Ahmed did not attend the activities of the festival and, moreover, he did not provide an excuse for turning down the invitation. Ahmed subsequently travelled to attend the 7th round of the Dubai International Film Festival.
