Ahmed El Sekka has provided an explanation on facebook following the circulation of accounts in the media that censured him for not attending the Cairo International Film Festival and the Cairo Media Festival where a special honor was bestowed on his father. El Sekka has clarified that he did not attend the 34th round of the Cairo International Film Festival because the event’s managers did not send him an invitation. Thus El Sekka wrote: “How could I attend the festival when no invitation has been sent to me?”As for his attendance of the Dubai International Film Festival, that occurred due to the fact that he had received an invitation to attend the festival and receive an award for the best Arab actor of the previous 10 years. Moreover the visit to Dubai lasted only 36 hours.Furthermore, with regards to his absence from the opening ceremony of the Cairo Media Festival where his father, Salah El Sekka, received a posthumous honor, Ahmed has stated: “My mother has more of a right to receive the award on behalf of my father than do I. It was for this reason that I did not attend the Cairo Arab Media Festival. May God have mercy on Salah El Sekka who was a father, a friend and a brother.”Ahmed El Sekka concluded his facebook post by writing: “I apologize for the lengthy account, however it was important to me to clarify what happened since you (followers and audiences) are the most important thing in my life. I seek refuge in God from everyone who wrote something about me that did not in fact happen.”
