Actor Ahmed ‘Ezz has refused to wager his patriotism in the face of accusations that he had sold out the revolution in favor of the previous regime. The actor has asserted that everything he had stated with ‘Amr Adib on the 27th of January - and prior to the “Friday of Anger” where some were martyred - had amounted to the notion that Egypt was more important than everything else. As to his description of demonstrators at Tahrir as unaware, ‘Ezz has not denied that but explained that he had requested that screens be erected at the site so that they become more aware of the facts and monitor the reforms that have begun to be implemented. ‘Ezz was concerned that the protesters could be exposed to wrong information that could exacerbate the schism that was present – a scenario which was particularly viable because communications were interrupted during that period. Finally, ‘Ezz has confirmed that he was not present at Tahrir but that he used to guard his home everyday – something which was a patriotic duty in itself.
