Syrian actress Raghda has expressed her profound happiness for what the Egyptian revolution has achieved and asserted her belief that this coup is for the better and will lead to similar socio-political action across the region. With regards to the divisions between performers in their views towards the revolution, the actress has stated that the resigned head of the Acting Syndicate, Ashraf Zakky, is the principal cause for the divide due to the fact that he was a follower of the regime. Raghda also believes that this led him to resign towards the conclusion of the crisis because he knew that he would be ousted following calls by herself and other actors indicating that Zakky should be cast out due to the split that he had caused between performers during the course of the revolution.Raghda also commented on her most recent work, the theatrical production “Balqis”. She stated that the play had predicted what has come to pass as the play’s author, Mahfouz ‘Abd Al Rahman had dreamt of and predicted the revolution 6 years ago. The actress refused to disclose any more details regarding the play, however she has affirmed that it will be a surprise to all who watch it.
