Renowned writer Samir ‘Abd Al Baqqy is to return to theater following an absence of 15 years with a new production titled “Thawrat al-‘Araaes” (“Revolution of the Dolls”). The play is to open in a few days at the puppet theater in Cairo. The work is directed by Hany al-Banna, costumes and design were done by Hussein al-‘Ezzaby while the musical score was provided by Tareq Mahran. Moreover the puppetry and other duties are assumed by Mahja Mahmoud and Sammya ‘Abd Al Latif. The play gives a comical twist to revolutions as the dolls pull of a revolt when they learn that audiences come to watch them and not the puppeteers. Thus the dolls revolt and kick their puppeteers off the stage. Worthy of note is the fact that the performance integrates many different types of dolls including marionettes, gloves, muppets, stick dolls and shadow theater in addition to video clips. Moreover the performance will witness the first use of graphics at the doll theater.
