Samira Ahmed prepares for a TV drama about the January Revolution

Actress Samira Ahmed is undertaking preparations to take part in a momentous drama production that is poised to be the premier drama title centered around the events of the January Revolution. The work will relate the events of the revolution from the outset of demonstrations all the way through to the martyring of the youths who lost their lives in the clashes and other touching human scenes which took place. The work will concludewith the realization of the protesters’ demands and Mubarak’s stepping down along with what followed in terms of socio-political reform.The series is an adaptation of Mohamed Salmawy’s novel “Agnihat al-Farrasha” (“The Wings of the Butterfly”) which was published recently. Salmawy discussed his work on a television program recently, following the conclusion of the episode he was contacted by Samira Ahmed who expressed her intent to purchase the rights for his novel so as to adapt it into a drama series. The work of literature contains sufficient material about the revolution and it should be noted that Samira will appear in only a few scenes. Nonetheless her role is essential as she will portray “Dohhy” - the mother of a protester who was present at Tahrir Square as well as the wife of one of the leading figures in the former regime. Dohhy herself plays a positive role by supporting the youths taking part in the revolution. The series also features some of the members of the artistic community who took part in the revolution. The drama’s leading characters will be selected over the coming few days and it is expected that the series will air next Ramadan.Samira Ahmed had previously expressed her happiness with regards to the revolution’s success. The actress equated the success of the revolt with the restoration of rights and honor to the Egyptian people and thus she expressed her joy for the fact that she is now an Egyptian citizen with full rights and privileges.
