Hemeida or al-Shereef to play “’Omar al-Moukhtaar” in a new TV series

In their new TV series, dealing with the biography of the Libyan Revolutionary “’Omar al-Moukhtaar”; scriptwriter Taarek al-Badawy and director Hosny Saaleh are choosing between superstars Nour al-Shereef and Mahmoud Hemeida to play the role of “Lion of the desert”.The 30-episode TV series highlights the biography of the great ‘Omar al-Moukhtaar, since childhood, through the stage of study and its influence on him, his fellowship with Sheikh Mahdy al-Senoussy, his travel to Chad to fight against French Occupation throughout ten years, his return to Libya as a the leader of Popular Resistance and ending by his execution.Al-Badawy confirmed, in a statement to al-Dostour newpaper, that he has been preparing for the TV series for two years in order to come out properly and historically credible to such great character. He pointed that he wishes to complete the series to be screened on Ramadaan 2012, as him and director Hosny Saaleh started working on it. Worth mention, Anthony Quinn played the role of ‘Omar al-Moukhtaar in the film “Assad al-saharaa i.e. Lion of the desert (1981)” directed by the great Syrian director Moustafa al-‘Akkaad.
