Morocco advances 5 countries to compete for the Oscar for the best foreign film

Nominations for the “Oscar for the best foreign film” have been delivered, where each country provides one film, and in phase 2 of the contest the number of films available after analyzing decreases to 5 films only. From those countries are: Greece with the movie “Attenberg”,Poland with the movie “In Darkness”, Romania with the movie “Morgen”, Venezuela with the movie “The Rumble of the Stones” and Morocco with the movie “Omar Killed Me”This movie was chosen to compete for the prize according to a Moroccan cinema council created to evaluate the movies managed by the director Mohamed Klai. This particular movie was chosen due to its great artistic and intellectual value amongst the Moroccan productions this year.The movie portrays the Moroccan Immigrant “Omar Al Radad” who lives in the city of Cannes in France and was accused of murder. Omar desperately tries to prove his innocence and is face with violence of the French police.The film stars Moroccan actor Samy Bougaila, directed by Roushdy Zam, produced by Algerian Rasheed BouSharp who had 3 previous movies nominated for the Oscar in the past.Up till now Egypt is indecisive as to which movie it will provide to enter the contest since last year’s movie was “Letters from the Sea”
