Avatar takes James Cameron to the ocean's deepest point.

Returning to Earth surface today 26 March; explorer, director and filmmaker James Cameron breaks the record by reaching the Pacific Ocean's deepest point.Cameron started his journey from the Pacific to reach Mariana Trench which is 7 miles (11km) down from the ocean's surface. Cinema's most successful director has dived in a unique submarine that he participated in designing it during the last year. He spent this under-the-sea journey investigating this alien territory of seascape, collecting data and studying species to help him imagine the unthinkable for parts 2 and 3 of "Avatar". Accompanying him was Swiss engineer Jack Pikar who was also part of the sub's desiging team and US Navy Commander, Don Walsh.
