In the 150th anniversary of poet and novelist Rabindranath Tagore's birth, Cultural Development Fund of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture decided to join "Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture" (MACIC) in organizing a film festival based on adaptations from Tagore's works.The festival will be held at the center of artistic creativity in the Egyptian Opera House from 6 P.M. Sunday 15th of April to Thursday 19th of April. 5 movies will participate in the festival all by top Indian directors such as Satyajit Ray, Tapan Sinha, Himen Gupta and Kumar Shahani. Also, a documentary about Tagore will be presented as well as a rare film from the Indian Silent Cinema that Tagore played one of its parts.The opening ceremony tomorrow will include a symposium run by Egyptian film critic Dr. Rafik Al Sabban with the participation of film critic Ms Khairiya Al Bishlawi. The ceremony will be attended by other high profile guests such as the Ambassador of India in Cairo R. Swaminathan, director of Cultural Development Fund Mohamed Abou-Seada.
