Hany Shaker stated that unlike the 1952 revolution, no great singers were born after the 25th of January, assuring that the 1952 revolution gave way to some of the best singers in Egypt and the Middle East. He said that the singers of 25th of January can only be called "Performers" or "Reciters", especially that they don't have the voice, and even their lyrics are very normal and similar to what we read in Newspapers. In his appearance on Mohamed Salah's program "Endama yaaty El masaa" or "When the night comes", he said that Abdel Halim Hafez was the main reason why he started singing and that he still is a student of Abdel Halim's school and owes him a lot.He mentioned also that the period when Arab countries boycotted Egypt, after the peace treaty with Israel, affected him negatively. He said he was "locked up" in Egypt for 10 years, especially that those were his peak years. He confessed that he sang for the former president Hosny Mubarak; however, he claims that this was earlier during his tenure and many other singers has done it.
