Cristian Mungiu says Romanian films are more popular in Romania than France

Screening for the film "Beyond The hills", competing for the Palme d'Or, was held today in the 65th annual Cannes Film Festival at 3:30 Paris time.In the press conference preceding the screening, director Cristian Mungiu talked about the film saying that he always cares about creating different types films. He stated that Romanian films is not that popular in Romania itself as it is in France, as Romanian people are more interested in American TV series, and that is due to the educational and cultural levels of viewers.Dana Tapalaga, the lead acress in the film who plays a nun, said that her role could get her in trouble after screening in Romania, as she plays a controversial kind of nun. Even though in real life she is very religious and goes frequently to the church, she fears they may not let her in anymore.Cristian Mungiu is already a Palme d'Or winner in 2007 for his film "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days".
