Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami is not fond of Japanese films.

At the press conference he held for his film "Like Someone in Love"; Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami spoke about contemporary Japanese films that he didn't understand their soul or spirit and they are but pure imitation of Hollywood films. Abbas said he might not have seen the right films, but he didn't like the ones he saw!As for his film that is in the Competition with another 21 films competing on the Palme d'Or; he said that it is just like life, has no beginning and no end. Abbas answered a reporter's question that the ending came to him suddenly and decided to end the film on smashing into the glass. Lead actor Tadashi Okuno said that he never received a script for his role, and that Abbas asked all actors to deal with the situations as naturally as possible and not to act. Okuno said that he had never dealt with this kind of filming before
