After the shocking passing of Sopranos lynchpin James Gandolfini in Rome last Wednesday, the issue of his body being returned to the United States has made for a series of bizarre headlines. Now, according to statements from his spokesman, Michael Kobold, his body has returned to the U.S.
Kobold issued a statement on Sunday thanking both Italian authorities and U.S. top diplomats for speeding up the process. He thanked former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and current U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry: "We would like to thank the United States government, especially Secretary Kerry and our friends at the State Department for helping us in this time of need... We thank President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for their kind support."
Gandolfini was in Italy for the Taormina Film Festival with his son Michael, 13, when he died from a sudden heart attack. His remains were returned to his home state of New Jersey on Sunday night.
