According to a number of sources, the talented James McAvoy will be starring as Dr. Frankenstein in a likely blockbuster alongside Daniel Radcliffe, who was cast to play Igor back in September. The classic horror tale was originally penned in 1818 by British author Mary Shelley, who published it anonymously before attaching her name to the second publication in 1823.
Dr. Victor Von Frankenstein creates a living being, a monster, from mutilated, dead body parts, and we can expect all the big Hollywood guns, as the flick will be helmed by Paul McGuigan, director of "Sherlock." Screenwriter Max Landis told ShockTillYouDrop.com, "I began to pick apart our knowledge of Frankenstein and discovered that the public's idea of this myth comes from a million different places. I became committed to recontextualizing it all so it all worked in one story. By the of the day, it's a period piece and yes, it's from Igor's perspective, but man it's cool. It's the best thing I've written."
Frankenstein was first realized on screen in 1931, played by Colin Clive. Adaptations haven't always drawn inside the lines of the genre, as Mel Brooks' memorable and hilarious " link" demonstrated in 1974.
McGuigan's adaptation is slated for an October 2014 release.
