" Nazareyet el Gawafa" actress Elham Shaheen, a staunch supporter of the military, has expressed happiness with a court's decision to release Egypt's ousted President Hosni Mubarak, saying God's justice is answering to all those who were happy about the "injustices" facing the 85-year-old. She asked why people who are demanding the release of Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Badie, who is 70 years old, weren't demanding the release of Mubarak when he was "between life and death."

Before stepping down in February 2011, Mubarak always said, "it's me or chaos." In a statement to , Shaheen said this was evidence that he is an honorable, patriotic man defending and protecting his country. She insists his problem was that he was aging. Shaheen implores people not to judge Mubarak for his old age and says he should have been deposed but not imprisoned.

According to Shaheen, there is a huge difference between the positions of Mubarak and ousted Islamist President Morsi. She says Morsi took the presidency but did not care about blood being shed in his defense, whereas Mubarak stepped down out of concern for his people, saying that he would die in this land.

Shaheen closed her statement by saying that the demands for the end of the Brotherhood regime represented the genuine will of the people, who came out in unprecedented numbers to the squares of Egypt, making it "the greatest outpouring of people demanding the fall of a regime in the world."

Violent clashes in the past week between Brotherhood supporters and security forces have claimed over 1500 lives and injured more than 5000, mostly among the ousted president's supporters. Before Mubarak stepped down in 2011, 841 civilians were killed by security forces during the 18-day revolution, according to the Arab Network for Human Rights Information.
