The great artist Mohsena Tawfik expressed her happiness at seeing her name among the winners of the state appreciation awards in the arts section. She stressed that it was a surprise for her as she didn't know that she was nominated in the first place, and in her own words, “I didn't expect anyone to remember me.”
Tawfik said in an exclusive statement to that to be awarded with this prestigious state prize despite an eight year absence is an honor for her artistic career, for which she endured a lot of hardship and difficulties for her brave choices in roles that made her eligible for this honor. She added that the award brought her youth back to her and that she feels the presence of Youssef Chahine's soul, a director she really misses in these desperate days.
Mohsena Tawfik stressed that the value of this trophy comes from the recognition of her artistic career by the artists and intellectuals of the state.
The great artist's latest work before her near decade-long hiatus was the show “El Marsa we Al Bahar,” which aired in 2005.
