The Spanish movie “ Blancanieves” is screening today at the Beirut Film Festival. Starring Maribel Verdu and Emilio Gavira, the feature was written and directed by Pablo Berger.

Set in the 1920s, the film is a twist on the Snow White fairy tale. A female bullfighter is raised as a slave by her stepmother, and ends up being taking care of by a band of bullfighting dwarves.

The Senegalese feature “Tall as the Baobab Tree” was also screened today. This is the feature directorial debut of Jeremy Teicher, who was named one of Filmmaker Magazine's 25 New Faces of Independent Film this year.

The Beirut Film Festival runs from October 2nd to the 10th. The festival will screen seventy-seven movies, under eight different categories including Middle Eastern shorts and Documentaries.
